Governance refers to the decision-making process of the University. The ultimate policy-making authority at MSU is the Board of Trustees, a group of eight individuals elected by state-wide ballot, whose powers are delegated through the Constitution of the State of Michigan. Faculty and students, along with administrators, have been delegated specific roles to play in the governance process. Undergraduates are governed by the Associated Students of Michigan State University (ASMSU), the all-university undergraduate student government. Graduate Students are governed by the Council of Graduate Students (COGS).
